Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Where do you get your ideas for your books?

Answer: From the idea fairy, of course. Just kidding. All of my books so far have begun with images in my mind or images I have created with my camera. Before I write the words to my books, I have to decicde what images I want to include. Then I do my research about each environment, then I start writing.

Question: How long have you been taking pictures?

Answer: I got my first camera when I was 12 years old. It was a simple "point and shoot" camera, but if used film. There weren't any digital cameras way back then. When I was in high school, my parents bought me my first SLR camera with changeable lenses. This was very cool. I could take closeups and portraits and wide angle images. I still have that camera and all the lenses.

Question: What kind of camera do you use?

Answer: People always ask me this. Sometimes they think it is the camera that makes great images, but really it's the eye and skill of the photographer. I now carry in my photo bag a digital camera - the Nikon D300 - and I still carry a film camera - the Nikon F100. I don't use the film camera as much as I used to because the digital camera works so well for most of my projects. I still use Fuji Velvia slide film or Kodak black and white film sometimes.
